Franck Laurent was born in Northern France in 1965. After working as a social worker for several years, he decided to change his career path and grew interest in sociology. He was particularly interested in Goffman’s work, to get a better understanding of the institutions stakeholders. Franck Laurent is very sensitive to the social aspect of our society and he is inspired by the stories of the people he met during his life, be it on an individual basis, in groups or in organisations.
His art could be defined with three words: “fragment”, “segment” and “moment”. These words could also define life in general. His art transgresses photography so that the images become impersonal and can live through other eyes. This is Franck Laurent’s main aim with his art, which is a personal need to him: create to affect other people with one individual expression, so that people can leave a trace and continue to live throughout different lives.
He represents individuals, couples or even groups with different emotions: loneliness, happiness, sadness, friendship, … in a reality that is as social as intimate.
He uses the face for feelings, the body for posture and different shades of colours for contrasts. The visual intensity of his paintings puts the meaning of the existence depending on life interactions or on their absence. A painting style that may be stylish, precise or imprecise, which hides the emotions behind realistic yet abstract shades.
